City of LA announces Contest Winners! Contest

Our partners at the City of Los Angeles announced this week six young finalists in the 2014 Get to Know Contest.

The City of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recration and the Office of Councilmember Tom Labonge reviewed hundreds of submissions from local youth before deciding on this year's winners. Kids of all ages across the city were invited to share their outdoor experiences through the creative arts as part of the annual Get to Know Contest. They responded with unique works of art, music, writing, video and photos, all inspired by the beauty of nature and the great outdoors.

Congratulations to the 2014 winners and everyone who shared their personal connections to nature. Keep up the great work!

Love & Death

Hope fading past the bleak hill

Sorrow peaks at the edge of unjust

Nature's beauty love and death

Sunshine mountains light

Like the soul left

Mystic thoughts ocean deep

A butterfly in wind

Eternal love will help me carry on

Big Inside

This is about a girl and they would tease her from her being tiny.

She wanted to be different. She came one day, and did many things big people couldn't do.

They were wrong. The inside counts.
