2013 Get to Know Contest
The Get to Know Contest is available nationally across the United States, in partnership with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, National Wildlife Federation, Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Wildlife Habitat Council, National Recreation and Park Association, Wildlife Forever and over fifty other partners from coast-to-coast. On behalf of our partners, Get to Know invites all American youth (19 and younger) to get outdoors and “get to know” their natural world. The Contest, now in its 14th year in Canada, encourages young people to develop a deeper appreciation for nature and biodiversity by getting outdoors and creating art, writing, digital photography, video and music. The goal of the contest is to engage the power of art to help youth feel more connected with nature. It's all about making connections with other environmentally passionate youth, using the creative arts to convey their passion, and having their accomplishments celebrated. We invite youth to Connect…Create …and Celebrate with the Get to Know Contest!
Youth just need to get outdoors and share their outdoor experiences through the contest. So whether their outdoor experience begins with a single tree in a backyard or acres of boreal forest in a national forest, the contest offers youth the opportunity to learn about and celebrate their local biodiversity. Winners will receive all kinds of wild prizes, including the chance to have their entry published in the electronic 2014 Get to Know Calendar and tons of other great prizes from our partners. The contest is now open and runs until November 1, 2013. We hope youth will visit their local National Forests, Parks, Zoos, Aquariums, Museums, Botanic Gardens (...anywhere wildlife and nature can be found!) to get inspired and get involved. To learn more and find out how to enter, visit www.gettoknow.ca.

2013 Get to Know Contest
The Get to Know Contest International video category invites youth to get outdoors and create short videos (30 seconds or 60 seconds in length) inspired by nature! Though not required, participants are encouraged to incorporate local green spaces, culture, music and/or art in their videos. In 2013, entries will once again be accepted from all youth aged 19 and under, anywhere in the world—making this truly an international celebration of biodiversity. By encouraging youth to get outdoors and “get to know” nature in their own communities, it is our hope that the video category will inspire them to spend more time outdoors, develop a greater awareness of biodiversity in their community, and take an active role in caring for the environment. Winners will receive Panasonic digital HD Camcorders, other great prizes and incentives from our partners, and opportunities to have their film screened at high-profile congratulations events across North America. To find inspiration for their video entry, Get to Know invites youth to visit our Best Practices Resource page, where they will find tips, activities, and words of encouragement from renowned artists, filmmakers, and educators: www.get-to-know.org/best-practices/. For more information about the video category, including how to enter, please visit www.gettoknow.ca.
