Ontario Power Generation
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is an Ontario-based electricity company. We are one of the largest power companies in North America. We produce the power used in most homes, schools, hospitals and businesses in Ontario.
Ontario Power Generation owns and operates the Pickering and Darlington Nuclear stations. The two stations have a combined generating capacity of about 6,600 megawatts. We have strong programs in place to operate in a safe, open and environmentally-responsible manner.
Nuclear power meets more than 50 per cent of Ontario's electricity needs. It has two major benefits - low operating costs and virtually none of the emissions that lead to smog, acid rain or global warming. These benefits make nuclear a very attractive option for meeting the province's electricity needs well into the future.
Darlington and Pickering Nuclear have earned the ISO 14001 Certification of their Environmental Management Systems (EMS). This ensures our environmental policies are managed, implemented, checked and reviewed within an overall context of continuous improvement. Within operations, the EMS is instrumental in assisting the business units to manage their environmental impacts.
Additionally, Darlington and Pickering are certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) for both Wildlife Habitat and Corporate Lands for Learning sites and both stations have won the prestigious WHC Corporate Habitat of the Year award twice.× Close
